The Recovery Runway

Recovery isn't one massage. It's a runway.

Most people show up after surgery swollen and sore, and no one told them what recovery really takes. Your best results start before the first incision, with a plan in three phases.

01
Before surgery

Prepare

We baseline your tissue, get your lymphatic system moving, and walk through exactly what to expect, so your body goes in ready.

02
The weeks after

Repair

A post-op series timed to your surgical timeline. Gentle manual lymphatic drainage to move fluid, ease swelling, and head off fibrosis, with red light where it helps.

03
Until you're you again

Restore

ScarWork® and maintenance sessions until your body holds its own balance and you can enjoy your results.

Beyond the massage table

Red light and ScarWork®: the tools that finish a recovery.

Lymphatic drainage moves the fluid. Red light and ScarWork® help the tissue itself heal, so you can see and feel your results sooner.

ScarWork®

Scars that soften, flatten, and move again

A light-touch technique that works the scar and the tissue around it, so tight, raised, or stuck scars loosen and blend in. Once your incisions are cleared, it's often the last piece of feeling like yourself again.

PTSD & the nervous system

When your body is still on alert, calm has to start in the body.

PTSD keeps the nervous system stuck in fight-or-flight: poor sleep, a racing mind, tension that never lets go. Lymphatic drainage works directly on that system, and it's some of the most meaningful work I do.

Every session, you're in control
  • We talk first, so you know exactly what to expect
  • You choose the pace, the pressure, and what stays covered
  • You can pause or stop at any time, no explanation needed
  • A quiet, private room with one practitioner: me
01

Slow, predictable rhythm

Lymphatic drainage is light, repetitive, and never rushed. That steady rhythm gives the nervous system something safe to follow, with no surprises.

02

From fight-or-flight to rest-and-repair

The work helps shift your body out of the sympathetic state and into the parasympathetic state, where breathing slows, muscles release, and the body can actually recover.

03

Deeper sleep, lighter body

Many clients tell me they sleep better after a session. Moving fluid and easing inflammation takes load off a body that's been bracing for a long time.

04

Built into a routine

Regular sessions keep bringing you back to that calm state, so your body starts to remember the way there. Veterans and first responders are always welcome.

Lymphatic drainage supports, and never replaces, care from your doctor, therapist, or counselor. I'm glad to work alongside them.

Meet Suzanne

I found this work the hard way. Now it's what I'm meant to do.

A motorcycle accident put me on my own long road to healing, and that's where I discovered what skilled, therapeutic touch can do for a body that's been through something.

I grew up in my family's restaurant, and I've been serving people ever since. I spent years behind the camera in film and TV as a script supervisor, where every detail had to match. I bring both to every session: care for the person on the table, and attention to the small things that change a recovery.

I've helped teach lymphatic curriculum, I hold an advanced certification in post-plastic-surgery lymphatic drainage, and I still love the simple work of helping someone feel good in their body again.

Questions

Lymphatic drainage questions, answered.

What is manual lymphatic drainage?

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that helps move lymph fluid through the body. It reduces swelling, supports healing after surgery, and calms the nervous system. At San Diego Lymphatic in Escondido and Carlsbad, it's delivered by Suzanne Armstrong, a Klose-certified MLD therapist and Aftercare Academy Specialist Postoperative Therapist.

How soon after surgery should I start lymphatic massage?

Ideally, start before surgery with one or two prep sessions. After surgery, most people begin once their surgeon clears them, often within the first days to weeks depending on the procedure. Suzanne follows your surgeon's protocol and builds your post-op series around your timeline.

How many lymphatic drainage sessions do I need after lipo, a BBL, or a tummy tuck?

Most post-op clients do best with a series of sessions rather than one visit, because swelling and fibrosis change week to week. The right number depends on your procedure, your surgeon's protocol, and how your body responds. Suzanne recommends a plan at your free consult.

How much does lymphatic drainage massage cost in Escondido?

At San Diego Lymphatic, a 60-minute lymphatic drainage or post-op session is $150. The first consultation is free. The Recovery Runway care plan, a complete pre-op and post-op series, is $1,500, and payment plans are available.

What is ScarWork®?

ScarWork® is a very light-touch hands-on technique for surgical and injury scars. It works the scar and the surrounding tissue so tight, raised, or stuck scars soften, flatten, and move more freely. Many clients see a visible change after a single session. ScarWork® is a registered trademark of Sharon Wheeler.

Can lymphatic drainage help with PTSD and chronic stress?

Lymphatic drainage can help the body shift out of fight-or-flight and into rest-and-repair. Its slow, predictable rhythm calms the nervous system, and many clients report better sleep. It supports, and never replaces, care from your doctor, therapist, or counselor.

Does lymphatic drainage hurt?

No. Lymphatic drainage uses very light, rhythmic pressure. Most people find it deeply relaxing, even in the first days after surgery.

Do you work with my surgeon?

Yes. Suzanne follows your surgeon's post-op protocol and garment schedule, and she's glad to send progress notes back to their office.

Where are you located?

San Diego Lymphatic sees clients in two North County locations: Escondido (342 E. Valley Parkway, Suite 5) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Carlsbad on Mondays and Wednesdays. Saturday mornings are available by appointment.

How do I pay?

Card, Zelle, cash, or check. The Recovery Runway care plan can be split into payments.
